I have a lot of information about the descendants of George James (mentioned below, died 18 Jan 1877) which I am more than happy to share with anyone who is interested. I will be most grateful to receive any information, however brief, that might lead me to more about his early life, parents, siblings relatives etc.

On the page named James, George I said - "I have no information yet about how, when or from where George JAMES arrived in the Port Phillip District and I have no definite proof about the date and place of his birth or about the identity of his parents and siblings. However, it seems to me that the circumstantial evidence is strong enough for me to believe that he was born in the East End of London on 2 Jan 1813 to Thomas JAMES and Ann HALL, Vintners of Mile End Old Town and baptised at St Dunstan, Stepney, County of Middlesex, UK on 27 Jun 1813".

And I went on to say - "Thomas JAMES was a widower when he married Ann HALL, a spinster, at St Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury, England on 27 Aug 1806. There may be reasons to think that Thomas JAMES was the father of other children either before or after his marriage to Ann HALL but the Registers at St Dunstan show that the following were baptised as being children of Thomas JAMES and Ann HALL -

Henry JAMES, born 6 Dec 1807
John Hall JAMES, born 18 Apr 1809
Richard JAMES, born 7 May 1811
George JAMES, born 2 Jan 1813
Charles JAMES, born 15 Jan 1815
Robert JAMES, born 4 Jul 1817
Jane Ann JAMES, born 1 Mar 1820".

The following discussion gives more detail of my reasons for believing the above to be correct - THIS SESSION OF EDITING ENDS HERE - MORE ON THIS SUBJECT SOON.

JAMES, George - married in Melbourne, Australia on 22 Aug 1840 to Elizabeth Maria BEALE, went (returned ?) to England about 1852-54, died at his home "Ridgeway" near Southampton UK on 18 Jan 1877 and buried somewhere at Jesus Chapel (Pear Tree Church), Parish of St Mary Extra, Hampshire UK (possibly inside the church ?). At the time of 1861 British Census he was living (head of household) at "Ridgeway" along with his wife, seven of their children, two visitors and twelve servants. In that census, his age then was shown as 47 years and his place of birth as Mile End, Middlesex. (One of his sons was named John Hall JAMES, b. 18 Apr 1848). Seeking any further information, particularly anything about parents, siblings or other relatives and his life and/or movements prior to 1840 whether in England, in Australia or elsewhere.

JAMES, Thomas - (widower) married Ann HALL (spinster) on 27 Aug 1806 at St Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury, London UK. Father of at least six children, all christened at St Dunstan, Stepney when his abode shown as Mile End Old Town and occupation shown as Vintner. One child was George JAMES, born 2 Jan 1813, christened 27 Jun 1813. Seeking any further information.

JAMES, George - born 2 Jan 1813, christened 27 Jun 1813 at St Dunstan, Stepney UK, to parents Thomas JAMES & Ann HALL  of Mile End Old Town, Vintner. (One of his brothers was named John Hall JAMES b. 4 May 1809). Seeking proof that this is the same person as the George JAMES who married in Melbourne in 1840 and died at "Ridgeway" near Southampton UK on 18 Jan 1877.

JAMES, Edwin Matthews - a successful medical practitioner and mining speculator in Melbourne, Australia in about 1860-1880. Appointed an Executor, in Australia, to the Will of George JAMES (c.1813-1877) but later withdrawn. Died 6 July 1900 in Scotland.
Possibly the same person as the Edwin Matthews JAMES christened on 6 Jan 1830 at St John in Bedwardine, County of Worcester, son of William John and Elizabeth JAMES, Clerk of Nr Ponrick Road ?. Seeking further information about a family relationship, if any, between these people.

JAMES, Jabus Stanley - appointed, in the Will of George JAMES dated 21 June 1865, an Executor in England and remained so until the Will was proved on 26 May 1877.
Possibly the same person as the Jabus Stanley JAMES christened on 12 Jul 1815 at St Swithin, Worcester ? and possibly the same as the Gabus (?) Stanley JAMES, Head of Household, retired Engineer, aged 66, born in Worcester, residing at time of 1881 Census at 17 Sumner Terrace, Kensington, London, Middlesex with wife Anne and Frances E Clark(niece) and two servants ?.
Seeking further information about a family relationship, if any, between these people.

JAMES, Edmund - mentioned in the Will of George JAMES (c. 1833-1877) as a tenant free of rent of certain land near Melbourne,   Australia. Buried in the graveyard at St Katherines church at St.Helena, Melbourne, Australia where the inscription reads - "Native  of Worcester, England, died 24/4/1898 aged 79 years". Seeking further information about a family relationship, if any, between these people.
