The Beale family was for generations on the Island of St Helena, Atlantic Ocean with the first recorded being another Anthony Beale (Captain, British East India Company) who was appointed Governor of the Island in 1672
.
When the East India Company's Charter was terminated in about 1836 Anthony Beale (1790 - 1865) with his wife and their twelve surviving children (out of sixteen born) moved to England, where the second and third sons found careers in the army and in medicine.
However, due to lack of opportunity in England, the rest of this family migrated to Australia where they arrived at Launceston, Van Diemens Land (Tasmania) in 1839 and (except for their first child,Onesiphorous, who drowned in the Tamar River) went on to the Port Phillip District (Melbourne) in that same year.
