Richard BROWNLOW - born c.1793, died 23 Sep 1845 in Sydney, Australia. Married Eliza ?, born c.1802, died 1846.
Richard and Eliza came out on the ___________ arriving in January 1823 at Hobart Town where Richard set up as a publican. He also acquired land grants which he sold before moving to Sydney in 1832. There he took over the Cavern Tavern in King Street, bought land at Morpeth in 1834 and in 1835 began a wine and spirits business in George Street. Although unable to read or write, he left £1000 to each of his three daughters and a flourishing business to his son Richard junior.
Their children included :-
Richard BROWNLOW  - born 17 May 1832 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, died 7 Dec 1873 at Paddington, NSW,  married in 1854 to Elizabeth Ann (Bessie) FRIEND, born _______ died 12 May 1895. This Richard apparently lived on his business profits and devoted much of his time to rifle shooting.He was 'among the first' to join the Volunteer Rifle Corps. (A detailed account of his outstanding ability at competition rifle shooting can be found in the Australian Dictionary of Biography, Volume 3, 1851-1890 A-C). As a conscientious member of the Corps he was often offered a commission but remained a private, even after his appointment to the magistracy at Paddington in 1870. In 1873 he developed typhoid fever, diptheria and pneumonia and died on 7 December. He was buried with military honours in the Anglican section of the Elizabeth Street cemetery in Sydney. Of his nine children, one son and five daughters survived him. After Richard's death, his widow Bessie moved to the Bairnsdale district in Victoria and, on land she took up, built "Eaglescourt" overlooking the Mitchell River and Eagle Point bluff.

Mabel Lendon BROWNLOW - born 1869 at Paddington, NSW, died 27 Feb 1948 at Bairnsdale, Vic., Aust., bd. 28 Feb 1948 at Bairnsdale, married 8 Jul 1896 in Hawthorn, Vic. to James Thomas MARTIN  (see Martin page)
Annie BROWNLOW - married on 1 Aug 1896 to __ McARTHUR
Olive Maude BROWNLOW - b.     died 1 Sep 1951, married Archibald Norman MACARTHUR, b. 27 Jan 1865 at "Grassdale", Sale, Vic., d. 4 Nov 1951 (or 1950 ?) at Bairnsdale, Vic.
