Our Researchers

Ivan Randall

Ivan first became interested in Family History over 20 years ago after his Father passed away and he realised that he did not know any of his relatives that came up to him at the Funeral to offer their condolences. He decided that he needed to find out and as the saying goes "the rest is history".  This was the start of his "addiction" to Family History research. He has researched his own family and those of friends, relatives and other acquaintances over the ensuing years. He has been involved in a couple of Family Reunions, attended several Genealogy Conferences and Australasian Genealogy & Heraldry Congresses. He has learnt much about the sources of information and the tips and tricks from experts on how to research successfully. His background has been in the electrical engineering field working with computers most of his working life, hence he is accomplished in their use. Being a retired Southern Australian, he now has the time for his true passion. He is President of Lyndoch & District Historical Society, and involved with other historical groups. He mentors people in their research and application of that data on a weekly basis.

Jeff Cook

Jeff's working life revolved around nursing and he obtained a Masters Degree in Gerontology. Jeff's interest in family history became serious about 20 years ago, and he has completed a number of short courses related to family history (the latest through the University of Tasmania). His main area of interest is Australian genealogy. Despite this his research often takes him back to the late 18 th and early 19 th century Great Britain. Jeff has also assisted others in compiling and writing their family history. Jeff is also an active member of more than one family history group. Jeff loves nothing better than compiling family history wall charts for people. He draws upon his tertiary training which has given him a sound base in research methodologies and this he applies to genealogy research.

Margaret Flaiban

Margaret emigrated from Yorkshire in 1968 and has researched family history since the early 1980's after she became curious about the people listed in the Family Bible. Since reading history books from an early age she has always had a leaning towards social history and the early Victorian era. After organizing her own family tree and helping many other people trace their family roots, she has built up a wealth of knowledge predominantly in English and some Scottish history together with South Australian history. After over 20 years of researching, she continues to mentor and assist people who are new to family history and is an active volunteer with her local history group. Accomplished in On Line Research and Social Media, she is more than familiar with accessing those hard to find records that are still only available at County level. Her working background is from the legal profession predominantly in Wills and Estates, so the historical theme has always been at the forefront of her research
