The Appleby Research Organisation is a non-profit making, One-name study group, dedicated to the study of the surname "Appleby" in all its varied forms of spelling.

The ARO has an extensive database of extracted Appleby records from Parish records, the UK General Record Office of Births & Marriages, census returns, Wills, criminal and military records as well as pedigrees and research material submitted by our members and friends of the ARO. Thus we have located and compiled probably the largest world-wide register of Appleby records dating back hundreds of years. This valuable index includes the persons name, date of birth , baptism and marriage as well as in many cases the parents names. The index also gives details of Parish, County and Country of birth or marriage. We issue a quarterly Newsletter "The Apple Tree" and a directory of members research Interests called "Searchline". We also have an Internet message board, here researchers can post details of their research interests.

The Appleby Research Organisation is a member of the Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS) in the UK, which is closely associated with the Federation of Family History Societies. We are also members of the Council of Family Societies.

We offer a free service to everyone interested in the Appleby name, and are pleased to search our records at any time to assist you in your research. We invite you to submit details of your family tree, so that it can be included in our Index, this will enable you to:
